With fuel prices at record highs in Pakistan, every driver wants to make their petrol last longer. By following a few smart driving habits, you can save thousands of rupees each month — and help the environment too!
1. Drive Smoothly
Avoid sudden acceleration and hard braking. Gentle driving keeps your car’s fuel system efficient and reduces engine strain.
2. Keep Your Car Tuned
A well-tuned engine burns fuel more efficiently.
Get your spark plugs, air filters, and oil checked every 5,000–10,000 km.
3. Check Tyre Pressure Regularly
Under-inflated tyres increase fuel consumption by up to 10%.
Keep tyres inflated to the recommended PSI levels (usually written on the driver’s door or manual).
4. Reduce Extra Weight
Avoid keeping heavy or unnecessary items in your trunk.
Extra weight forces your engine to use more fuel — especially in smaller cars.
5. Limit Idle Time
If you’re waiting for someone or stuck for long at signals, turn off the engine.
An idling car can waste 1 litre of petrol every hour.
6. Maintain Proper Speed
Driving between 60–80 km/h gives the best fuel average.
Higher speeds cause more air resistance and increase consumption.
7. Clean Air Filter & Use Quality Fuel
A dirty air filter blocks airflow and increases fuel usage.
Always fill up from reliable petrol stations to avoid adulterated fuel that damages the engine.
